Why:   Michael Sadler Foundation has continued the inspiration of Mike Sadler’s legacy, building confidence and determination in people to be their best selves.  As young adults head to college, vocational training or work, their success depends on several unique skills, including personal brand creation, effective use of social media, the art of writing, mindful financial management, personal balance and, most importantly, how to overcome adversity.

With sponsor partnerships, the Legacy Leadership Conference will ignite perspective on each of these topics so that participants leave with a greater understanding of how to seize opportunities and tackle adversity to realize their full potential.

Description:  The Legacy Leadership Conference will focus on educational and character-building opportunities for high school youth, with an emphasis on overcoming adversity and learning life skills that will give participants a competitive edge in school, work and life.

Keynote addresses will include C-level leadership influence with real-world experience in overcoming adversity during their lives to reach a pinnacle in their professions.  Workshop sessions nestled between keynote speakers will focus on educational topics relevant to success in higher education, interview situations, job searches, professional positions and daily life. Participants will be able to develop their leadership skills, communicate and collaborate with peers, and grow through exposure to executive leaders sharing practical experiences.

Length and Frequency:  The Legacy Leadership Conference will be held once a year in Michigan, with the first location in Grand Rapids.  The initial Conference will be one day in length.

Who is Eligible:  U.S. high school juniors, seniors and recent graduates. High school juniors and seniors may be sponsored by community organizations, individual donors, or by their schools.  Individual applications are accepted for scholarship consideration.  An emphasis on academic success, attitude, work ethic and health/fitness will be highlighted in the selection process. Students who wish to pay the conference fee instead of applying for scholarship consideration may register independently at LegacyLeadershipConference.com.  All students will be required to adhere to strict conference rules so everyone gains maximum benefit from the event.

Goals:

(1)Empower students with the advantage of life skills that will differentiate them through college, job interviews, work and every day social interaction;

(2)  Instill confidence in a student’s ability to overcome adversity as he/she encounters it.  Keynote speakers who have risen to the top of their fields, yet faced significant adversity along the way, will share the story of their journeys;

(3)  Create social, emotional and self-awareness within each participant to enable more mindful decision making.
